In this episode, I’ll introduce the Todd Loom, a basic and very simple loom similar to the pot holder looms we used as kids. This is, in fact a very good beginner loom for small kids to learn the basics of weaving. I’ll use a tapestry needle to do a simple over-under pattern to begin weaving a mug rug. These make great, inexpensive gifts which can be matched with a coffee cup and packet of hot chocolate or coffee for a special person on your list.
Materials are from Dick Blick Art Supplies, available online. Yarn is 100% cotton from Peaches & Cream yarns.

In the final segment of the Broom Making Tutorial, I’ll show you how to do the weaving around the base of the broom stalks. After the weaving, you will end with one more row of stitches. Leave a long tail of the waxed linen so that you can tie on embellishments or string beads. These can be changed seasonally to match your home decor. In the third segment of the Broom Making tutorial, I will show you how to stitch the brush part of the broom stalks. The technique is identical to the first set of stitches, but you won’t be going through the stalks to do this.

In this second segment of the Broom Making Tutorial, I’ll talk about the tools needed to make the broom as well as the supplier, R.E. Caddy of Greensboro, NC. I’ll also show you how to string the broom stalks around the broom handle and fasten using a stitching method through the stalks and around to fasten the first set of stitches.

In this episode, I’ll begin weaving my scarf and will show you how to tie off the ends as you begin the scarf. This prevents having to tie off the ends once the scarf is removed from the loom. The ends will be much more even and it doesn’t warp the end of the scarf. The same procedure is repeated at the end of the scarf when finished.

In this episode, I’ll wind the shuttles and begin weaving in the lead yarn. The lead yarn is woven to even up the warp threads in order to begin weaving the main piece.
